Why domain transfer fails?

Admin Publishes 2025-01-14 5 min read

What is domain transfer?

Domain transfer: It usually refers to transferring a domain from one registrar to a new one. Generally, we refer to the original domain registrar as the "transfer-out party" and the new domain registrar as the "transfer-in party". There are many reasons for the transfer. It could be due to renewal price factors, lack of features, domain registration requirements, or the desire to manage the domain and hosting in a unified manner, etc. The process of transferring a domain in and out is also called "domain transfer".

Why domain transfer fails?

Suppose you have already obtained the transfer password from the "transfer-out party" and submitted the transfer request to the "transfer-in party", and the domain is already in the transfer process. However, after 7 or 10 days, you find that the domain transfer has failed. There may be several reasons for this:
1. The "transfer-out party", which is the original domain registrar, cancels the transfer during the process. The possible reasons could be that there is a dispute over the domain, and the original registrar cancels the transfer due to security concerns, or there may be other reasons. You should consult the customer service or submit a ticket to the "transfer-out party" registrar for specific information.
2. The domain owner cancels the transfer at the original registrar during the process. The owner may have made a mistake or decided not to transfer the domain due to other reasons.
3. The domain owner selects a new "transfer-in party" registrar. For example, the original plan was to transfer to Registrar A, but later a new transfer request was submitted to Registrar B.
4. The registry directly cancels the transfer. This situation is extremely rare and usually occurs when the domain is involved in arbitration, court cases, or other legal matters.
In general, the "transfer-in party" will not actively cancel or refuse a transfer. They are always open and welcoming, as the more clients or domains they receive, the better. Therefore, if a transfer fails, the first step should be to contact the "transfer-out party" to understand the situation and inquire about the reasons.
